Well
we are in our 3rd year, redoing our garden that has been
neglected for many years. Mainly the only thing that was done was
cutting the grass, so this site will show our progress.
I think we changed the garden drastically in our first year
putting in 2 new flower beds some fencing and a vegetable garden.
Our second year we revamped a area around the deck for a hot tub so
I lost part a flower bed. Also re designed the front garden and
automated my water system for the back garden watering.
Well
its my second year in the garden. I have done some major changes in
the front yard and made some space for a hot tub near my back deck.
Moved a lot of plants to new locations and installed a auto watering
system using soaker hoses. Also bought some rose bushes. Roy
We
have our first blooms of the year!!!! I decided to put in my first
water feature
in the garden and from looking at the
picture too many kritters around this feature oh well. Also moved
and planted some new in the front garden.
Well
I have completed all planting
of new plants as well as moving existing plants to there new home.
Also all soaker hoses are in place and tested for major
problems will run automatically once a day in most flower beds and
my vegetable garden.
Planted several containers using seeds a lot cheaper than using bedding plants but will buy some later for hanging plants. Two loads to the dump to get rid of all leftover wood from last years Reno. Remove
All
plants have come along extremely well as you can see from my
pictures, our rhubarb has
gone nuts. The seeded planters are just sprouting and bulbs are now
2" above the ground. My only failure was last years dahlias none
survived storage over winter so I stored them improperly back to the
internet to find out why. This week we are planting gladiolus around
our garden and do our hanging baskets so its back to the garden
center for plants. Oh ya I will be planting the vegetable garden.
Roy
The
rhododendron in the front of the cottage is in full blossom, a
beautiful sight in deed. Planted my tomatoes and most of the
vegetable garden . Yesterday we were at the plant store to get
Sylvia's plants for our hanging baskets. I of coarse found a few
extra plants one to replace the pheasent tail grass that didn't come
back after our winter. My two grape plants are finally showing some
life with a couple of leaves each I did think that I had lost them.
Also my little lilac bush is in bloom.
Roy
The
rhododendron in the front of the house have past its prime but
we still have one just starting on the side of the house picture
below. We have been fighting raccoons and I think they are
winning but the battle continues.
Weather is fantastic sunny and hot and everything is in full grow
mode can almost sit on the deck and watch it grow. The garden has
soaker hoes every where and is operated on a auto watering system.
So the garden will take care of it self while on vacation. Also
visited the local curling rink for the garden clubs annual plant
sale picked up a few gems and are now in the garden.
Well it took a week to get my garden back to where I was in control lucky for me the weather turned sunny after 2 days of rain. Replanted more radishes after they all got used up in salads etc. Our local is closing for the season so everything was at 40% off so added a few perennials to fill a few bare spots.
We
are in a heat wave here in southern BC and our plants
are all in bloom even the sun flowers are now in bloom or getting
there. The Canna Lily 2nd picture down is loving the heat
and just stated to bloom . This summer has been a dream with all
this hot weather and with all my success this year I have several
new beds in the making ,one will be a shade garden and one
will be a full sun garden where my tomatoes will be planted next
year. They are taking over our garden bed but that is just in
the planning stage.
Well as of today the heat wave is over for a day or 2 anyways. I guess I have to get back out in the garden and catch up to the weeds. My grape vines are finally showing off in growth by making it to the top of the trellis. Our vegetable garden is now giving us all kinds of fresh produce.
Now with Brigade Days over which is Hopes big fall festable and the
cool nights causing the leaves on the trees to change and fall to
the ground, I have started the dreaded garden cleanup. Our vegetable
has been harvested except for a few remaining vegetables.
All house plants have been moved inside for the coming winter.
Fall is here although my garden is still blooming as if we were
still in August but I think that will soon end. The morning are
quite cool and should turn to frost in a week or two.
So that's when the garden clean up begins.
-5 C for 2 nights and what do you get ? The end of gardening for
2009.
Now the work will begin to put the garden in winter mode.
My final entry for 2009 winter has control of the garden so let it go. I have several changes that I want to do so the planning has begun. More beds are required and some structures to be added. Till next year Roy
